When It Comes To Music, Did Star Trek Beyond’s Trailer Boldly Go Where Guardians Of the Galaxy Has Gone Before?

If you’re like us, any attention you planned to give to a JJ Abrams film this week was set-aside for the heavily promoted Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which opens in theaters this Friday. Knowing this, Paramount Pictures enlisted the help of a “sabotage” to ensure that we’d be talking about his other sci-fi adventure franchise as well. Just as Abrams first declared with Star Trek’s 2009, reboot, director Justin Lin used Beastie Boys’ 1993 classic “sabotage”, all through out the film’s new trailer, to remind us that “this isn’t your daddy’s star trek.”

The famed director of multiple Fast And Furious films has humor, action, and adventure exploding right along side several actual explosions, cut perfectly to the rhythm of the Bieasties. Was someone taking notes while watching the trailer for Guardians of The Galaxy? For those that don’t know, Marvel’s intergalactic wise-cracking, action adventure epic, famously used Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit In The Sky” and Blue Suede’s “Hooked On A Feeling” in its trailer. Like the new Star Trek Beyond trailer, it was also rhythmically cut to plenty of explosions, jokes, and adventure.

In fact, music played a huge role in Guardians Of the Galaxy. It grew from awesome trailers, into a main part of the film’s character. That “character” then became the second highest selling soundtrack of 2014. When it comes to music, will Star Trek boldly go where Guardians has gone before? Find out when Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 22nd.
