Universal Music Slashes Prices To Historic Lows For Black Friday
Universal Music Group’s distribution department has announced what is being described as a ground breaking Black Friday oriented sales program. This unprecedented initiative is designed to allow Hard copy and digital retailers the opportunity to offer costumers stand out hits from UMG’s catalog of best sellers at a significantly reduced price. Artists like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, and Lil Wayne will be available for purchase at $4.99. Greatest Hits collections from the likes of Guns N’ Roses, Andrea Bocelli and Stevie Wonder will be offered digitally at the reduced price of $5.99.
Candace Berry, EVP and GM of Universal Music Group Distribution, provided the following statement explained, “Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become two of the biggest sale periods for music retailers, and we wanted to create a dynamic program that would allow our customers to maximize volume on a wide variety of our product while retaining a strong margin.”
Cyber Monday is a marketing term for the Monday following Black Friday. It came about thanks to a blast of publicity spin and coordinated sales that resulted in Cyber Monday becoming one of the biggest online shopping days of the Year. If that tradition UMG artists like Drake, Mary J Blige, Rihanna, Jay-Z & Kanye West, and Justin Bieber have some really great odds in the record stores this week.
