Universal Music Group Makes History Charting 9 Of Digital Sales Top 10

Universal Music Group has set a new music industry record by having 9 of the top 10 best selling digital songs in the US. UMG songs that boxed out the charts are Katy Perry’s “Roar” from Capitol Records at number 1, Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” at 2 from Star Trak/Interscope Records, Lady Gaga “Applause” at number 3 from Streamline/Interscope Records, Jay-Z Featuring Justin Timberlake ”Holy Grail” at number 3 from Roc Nation, Luke Bryan’s “That My Kind Of Night” from Capitol Nashville at number 5, Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” at number 7 from PRMD/Island Records, Imagine Dragons “Radioactive” at number 8 from KidinaKorner/Interscope Records, Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” at number 9 from Polydor/Interscope Records, and Lorde’s “Royals” from Lava/Republic Records at number 10. UMG Chairman Lucian Grainge reacted the achievement in a statement.
“While only a snapshot, this achievement is representative of our global commitment to long-term artist development and the performance of our labels, including our efforts to revitalize EMI, Capitol and Virgin. Further, this week’s results also demonstrate the success we’re having with artists across a wide array of genres.”
