A few months back, we here at Clizbeats had the wonderful opportunity to interview hip hop artist and former coach on NBC’s The Voice Cee-Lo Green. We published the interview yesterday, and you should definitely check it out here. In his interview with us, Cee-Lo Green talks in depth about a number of topics including his most recent project with his hip hop group Goodie Mob as well as his show on TBS Cee-Lo Green’s The Good Life. Cee-Lo was as entertaining as you would expect when he talked with us, and the interview is well worth your time to check out.
While Cee-Lo has become a household name in recent years thanks to his solo hit “Forget You”, his Gnarls Barkley single “Crazy,” and more recently his time spent judging on The Voice, you probably heard his voice almost 20 years ago without even knowing it. In 1995 TLC released one of their most successful singles, “Waterfalls.” While we all may be familiar with this classic TLC song, what you may not know is that Cee-Lo Green sang background vocals on it. At the time that “Waterfalls” was being recorded Cee-Lo was signed to LaFace Records, the same label that TLC was signed to. In a 2013 interview with FUSE TV, TLC member T-Boz recalled how Cee-Lo got to be on the track. “Then everybody knew him as a rapper, but we loved his voice so we said ‘sing on this,’ so he did, and it was amazing! And now everyone knows him as a singer, but he was like that years ago.”
So go ahead and listen to TLC’s “Waterfalls” again and see if you can make out Cee-Lo’s voice in the backing vocals. And right after you are done doing that, make sure you check out our interview with Cee-Lo here!
As always, if you know of an interesting music related fact that you would like to share with your fellow Clizbeats readers, share it with us on Twitter (@Clizbeats) or on our Facebook page. If we like it, we may just spotlight it here on our weekly TIL post!
