Grammy Award-winning R&B songstress Alicia Keys has released a new single this week. Keys went on NBC’s Today Show on Monday to debut her new song “We Are Here” She told Matt Lauer that the song was born out of a question that was posed to her from a friend, “Why are you here?” Keys went on to explain that the song channels all of the frustrations that her, and many others, have when looking at all the ills that are currently facing the world and wondering how we can use our voices to do something about it. Her intention in crafting the song is to start a dialogue with people that will have them asking themselves why they are here, and added that it is her hope that this conversation can then lead to a broader discussion about what we all can do to actually bring about positive change in the world.
Alicia Keys is also encouraging her fans to participate in a social media campaign to get the conversation started. She is encouraging people to use the #WeAreHere hashtag and then state why they feel they are here. When Matt Lauer asked Alicia Keys to answer why she is here, she responded by saying “I believe the answer is that we are here for all of us, we are here to be here for each other”. Hence the song’s chorus, “We are here, we are here for all of us, we are here for all of us, that’s why we are here”.
If you haven’t yet heard “We Are Here” you should definitely check it out down below in the related media. I personally really like the song and sincerely appreciate the effort made by Keys to make a record that addresses some of the many serious issues we are facing in the world today. Now we don’t know this for sure quite yet, but “We Are Here” may very well be the first song we hear from the still untitled album that Alicia Keys is expected to release at the end of this year. The new album is expected to be released in either November or December. But with the debut of “We Are Here” earlier this week, I thought it would only be appropriate to take this time to remember Alicia Keys debut single “Fallin'”.
“Fallin'” served as the debut single for Alicia Keys in 2001. It was also the lead single to her first album Songs in A Minor, which was also released in that same year. “Fallin'” proved to be a huge commercial success for Keys as it topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for six weeks. It also won the songstress three Grammy Awards for the song in 2002, and her album Songs in A Minor garnered her two more Grammy wins. Keys also released an official remix to “Fallin'” which was included on the CD single. The remix featured rappers Busta Rhymes and Rampage, and if you have never heard that version of the song you should definitely check it out below in the related media as well.
So with Alicia Keys debuting her new song “We Are Here” earlier this week, today we remember her 2001 debut single “Fallin'”. Enjoy!
