The Story Behind Justin Timberlake’s Surprise Single “Soulmate”

A lot can happen when you take a few days off for the 4^thof July holiday. One of those big things was a surprise release of a new single by Justin Timberlake. This new single is “Soulmate,” a fun uptempo, summer song that took us by surprise. However just as it took us by surprise, chances are it took everyone else by surprise, including some people at his own record label.

As JT indicated via his Twitter, the song came out of a recording session in the Bahamas that took place on June 26^th, and was finished being mixed on July 3^rd, only to be released later that day from RCA Records.

The credits adapted from Tidal show that “Soulmate” was co-produced by Paul “Nineteen85” Jefferies and Timberlake himself. Nineteen85 is a Toronto producer best known for producing several hits for Drake. (including “One Dance,” “Hotline Bling”, and “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”)
