Beliebers everywhere are eagerly counting down the days until his album Believe officially hits stores on June 19th. No stranger to PR, Justin and his label Island Def Jam Music Group are even promoting a new digitally released single from the album once a week, and steadily touring internationally until the highly anticipated date arrives. What we enjoy most about watching all of that celebrity unfold in front of the whole world however, is to be able to see his influence touch and make a difference for people in some of the most heart warming ways. This time Vancouver Washington’s KPTV had one of those truly amazing stories.
It is the story of young Megan Ham, and how listening to the music of Justin Bieber has improved her quality of life, while living with a debilitating and rare condition. The 11 year old was diagnosed with Lissencephaly when she was born. It is is a rare brain formation disorder caused by defective neuronal migration during a specific period between the second and third trimester of pregnancy. The condition results in those diagnosed with it having a lack of the properly developed brain folds and groves that is expected of a typically formed brain. As a result, children with the condition have sever neurological impairment, and are often expected to have a life span of only a number of months. Considering that fact, and knowing that Megan is now 11 years old, it is pretty clear that she has defied all expectations set for her just by simply being alive. Therefore, no one expected that the music of Justin Bieber would help spike a medical breakthrough.
Megan’s doctors have told her parents that she would never physically be able to walk, talk, or express emotion. However, thanks to the music of Justin Bieber, Megan’s teachers learned that at least when it comes to emotion, that just wasn’t true. For a still unexplained reason, Megan can very clearly recognizes Justin Bieber. In fact, every time she either sees or hears him, she completely lights up.
While her teachers were looking after her at Hearthwood Elementary School, they discovered Megan’s inspired love for the singer completely by chance, when one of the singer’s songs came on a radio that was on in the background.
“It really helps her to get through the day,” said teacher Kim Graves. “It keeps her happy and it keeps her comfortable. ”
“We never thought we would feel that, from what the doctors said at the beginning,” said Michael Ham, Megan’s father. “This has really opened up a lot of doors.” “It makes me want to cry,” continued Michael. She’s happy and she’s healthy, it’s a pretty big deal.”
“She just can’t get enough of him,” said Roxanne Ham, Megan’s mom.
This has to be the most genuinely moving and blessed case of “Bieber fever” we’ve ever seen. We’re also pretty confident that Beiber and friends feel the same way. We found this news report because of Justin’s manager Scooter Braun sharing it online. Hopefully Megan will be able to meet her hero, and it leads to an even greater breakthrough for Megan and her family.
