Sia Helps David Guetta Keep The Party Going On “Nothing But The Beat 2.0”
There is an old saying about anything that continues to be successful, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” This philosophy must be exactly what superstar DJ/producer, David Guetta and his label EMI are living by as the hits keep coming from his 2011 smash hit album, Nothing But The Beat. Just this past September David released a re-packaged version of the album, appropriately titled, Nothing But The Beat 2.0. It features all the hit singles that made the album famous like “Without You” featuring Usher, “Turn Me On” featuring Nicki Minaj, “Little Bad Girl” featuring Taio Cruz and Ludacris, as well as all the other favorites. However David is keeping the party going as he called on some of his friends to contribute to some new tracks that are included exclusively on the 2.0 version of the album.
Some of these new songs include “Play Hard” featuring Akon and Ne-Yo, “Just One Last Time” featuring Taped Rai, “Every Chance We Get We Run” featuring Tegan and Sara. The album also features 3 of the album’s underground dance mixes made specifically for club enthusiast who were always the first to support David Guetta. However even with all these cool things included on Nothing But The Beat 2.0, (NBTH 2.0) perhaps the coolest contributions to the new version of the album comes from David’s work with Australian singer/song writer, Sia. She is featured on two of the album’s most high profile new tracks, “She Wolf (Falling To Pieces)” and “Wild One 2”. “Wild One 2” is David Guetta’s take on Flo Rida’s hit single “Wild One” which hit number 2 on the US Pop charts earlier this year. In Guetta’s version he sample’s the hook of the song which is performed by Sia on the original as well, and extends it into an instrumental mix of beats that Guetta co-produced with Nicky Romero. Guetta sampled Flo Rida’s song “Wild One”, and made it primarily instrumental removing Flo Rida’s rap verses for an extended mix, but this is done no doubt with his blessing, Flo and Guetta have collaborated multiple times on a couple of major hits. The first came in 2010 with their single from the dance film, Step Up 3D, “Club Can’t Handle Me.” Their second song together actually came together as the first single to the original version of Nothing But The Beat, “Where Them Girls At” also featuring Nicki Minaj originally from May of 2011.
While “Wild Ones 2” is obviously a sequel song that includes Sia on both versions, her other new song for NBTB 2.0 can also be looked at as a sequel song in its own way as well. That song is “She Wolf (Falling To Pieces)” It features Sia as the song’s primary vocal performer and has a similar sound and progression to their previous hit together, “Titanium” from the original version of the album. While other songs from the original version of the album may have had a longer impact in the United States, “Titanium” is arguably the biggest worldwide hit from the album. It has gone on to reach top 5 chart status or higher in nearly every country around the world that the song was released in. So with that said, it was by popular demand that “She Wolf” be released as the project’s overall 7th single for radio, and was the force that inspired the entire repackaged NBTB 2.0. “She Wolf” is already following in “Titanium’s” foot steps by becoming a top 10 hit on 13 different charts internationally prior to even impacting in the United States. The song’s music video is now being seen by American MTV platforms following up the album’s 6th hit, “I Can Only Imagine” featuring Chris Brown and Lil Wayne. “She wolf (Falling To Pieces)” is another reason why Guetta’s album, Nothing But The Beat has gone on to sell over 3 million copies of the complete album, as well as 15 million singles of individual downloads, making David Guetta the best selling DJ in history, and the sonic custodian of our current popular music’s blend of Dance music worldwide.
