Our Prayers Are With Celine Dion As Cancer Continues To Attack Her Family

We are heartbroken to learn that Celine Dion’s family continues to be plagued by cancer. TMZ is now reporting that her older brother, Daniel is now on his deathbed with only hours left to live. Daniel, 59, has been fighting brain, tongue and throat cancer in Celine’s native Montreal according to his sister, Claudette. Family, currently surrounds him including their 89-year-old mother.

This news comes less than 24 hours after the passing of Celine Dion lost her husband, René Angélil after a long battle with throat cancer at 73 years old. Celine Dion’s official web site published a statement regarding Angélil’s passing that reads as follows

René Angélil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer. The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time.

Celine Dion’s frequent collaborators, songwriters, David Foster and Diane Warren also commented on René’s passing.

Angélil was first diagnosed with throat cancer in 1998 and was believed to have made a full recovery. This was prominently featured in Celine Dions’s Behind The Music episode from 2000 before her hiatus. Angélil underwent further surgery in December 2013 for the throat cancer. He would then step down as Dion’s manager in June of 2014 to focus on his health In September 2015 Dion announced that Angélil’s cancer was in bad condition, and that he had only “months to live” Angélil died on January 14, 2016, two days before his 74th birthday. Celine, six children and seven grandchildren survived him.

René Angélil managed Celine Dion for the majority of her career since discovering her at age 12 in 1981 in Montreal Quebec. Celine and René became romantically involved when Dion was was 19 years old. The couple eventually married in 1994 despite their 26 year age difference.

As Celine has just lost her husband, and her brother Daniel’s health takes a turn for the worse, we want to let her know that she and her family are in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.
