Napster Creator To Buy Warner Music Group?

Sean Parker

Sean Parker

Social Network watching movie goers may remember the Sean Parker as one of the principle members of the executive team for social networking Phenomenon, Facebook. In addition to showing off a playboy life style, the movie, as well as much of Parker’s non feature film press, hails him as the Internet pioneer that spearheaded the start of popularized illegal downloading of digital music, through his file sharing software called Napster. Now it appears that having Justin Timberlake, a pop star who has sold millions of records, playing him in a movie, saying lines that talk about taking down the record industry isn’t Ironic enough.  Now Parker wants to own one of the very companies he was subsequently mocking.

Peter Kafka of Allthingsdigital.com reported this past Friday, that Parker is “allied” with  team that has placed a bid to buy Warner Music Group, who placed themselves on the market earlier this year.  No word yet on if such a speculation could come  true.  The asking price is $2.5 billion, and Parker and crew will have to out bid investors Burkle-Teitelbaum to win.  It is important to note that Parker is also a principle investor in music based social media company, Spotify.  We will gladly keep you updated with details as they emerge.
