Missy Elliott Returns To Her Roots With Timbaland On 7th Studio Album

Virginia Rapper/Singer/song writer/producer Missy Elliott is finally getting ready to release her 7th studio album. That album is tentatively titled, Block Party and is expected for release in December of 2012 from The Gold Mind/Atlantic Records. Atlantic had released two new singles from the project yesterday September 18th, and fans seem to be welcoming her back with open arms. Both songs “9th Inning” and “Tripple Threat” reunite Missy with her long time collaborator and friend Timbaland who is featured on both tracks as a performer and producer. Missy fans know that Timbaland has been a creative production partner for the majority of Missy’s biggest hits like “Work It”, “Get Ur Freak On””, “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” and many others. The two have been working together since their early days in the Virginia music industry with Jodeci’s Devante Swing’s “Swing Mob Records” in the early 90s.
While Missy did appear on Timbaland’s album, Timbaland Presents: Shock Value Vol #1 in 2007, Block Party will actually be Missy’s first complete album since 2005’s The Cook Book. Missy explained her long absence from the music industry in June 2011 in a People Magazine article and VH1’s Behind The Music. She explained that she was coping with an autoimmune disorder known as Graves disease. She experienced severe symptoms from the condition, and explained that she could not even hold a pen up to write songs. After receiving treatment, for the condition privately, her symptoms stabilized and she was able to get back to the music. That album has been slated for release off and on since 2008, and during that time the direction of the album has changed over time as it continued to take shape. Early on It has been reported that Missy had worked with Notable producers like The Soul Diggaz, Pharrell Williams, Rodney Jerkins, Stargate and others. However last year it has been confirmed that Timbaland would produce the majority of the album, as the two of them would bring her sound back to her sound from the 90s. These two new singles, “9th Inning” and “Tripple Threat” is the world’s first taste of the things to come from this exciting new album.
