MIKE POSNER “TRADES DANCE MUSIC PRODUCTION FOR AN ACOUSTIC GUITAR, AND BEGINS TO TELL HIS TRUTH” WITH NEW EP

(May 28, 2015 – New York, NY)  Detroit-based multi-platinum singer, songwriter and producer Mike Posner, who was critically hailed for his premiere performance as an Island Records artist at this year’s SXSW, will release his debut EP THE TRUTH on Island Records June 22^nd on iTunes.  His new track “Be As You Are” will officially impact at triple-A/non-commercial/college radio formats later that week.  The 4-song EP will include “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” as well as “Be As You Are,” “Not That Simple,” and “Buried In Detroit.”

“It’s just about being honest,” Mike confessed to Billboard.com of his new material, the first new songs in four years that he has approved for release.  “I listen to a lot of stuff that’s out there, some of which I wrote, and I’m like, ‘Where is that? Where’s the honesty?’  So that’s what I want to get to in my music now.”

Posner’s 4 million-selling global debut smash “Cooler Than Me” (2010) detonated a series of successful writing and producing collaborations with megastars Justin Bieber (“Boyfriend”), Maroon 5 (“Sugar,” highest-charted #2 smash from their current album, V), Nick Jonas (“Numb” and “Closer” on his new self-titled Island debut album), Labrinth & Emeli Sandé (“Beneath Your Beauti­ful”), Big Sean, Pharrell Williams, 2 Chainz, and many others.

Mike Posner, first made his appearance on record while studying at Duke University, appearing on Detroit friend Big Sean’s debut mixtape. From there, Mike went on to make two mixtapes of his own that generated heavy industry buzz.  The second of them, A Matter Of Time (2009) jumped to #1 on the iTunes U chart, and earned Mike his first major label record deal.  Recording and touring while still in college (and issuing a third mixtape), his official debut album, the Top 10 Soundscan 31 Minutes To Takeoff was released in August 2010 after he graduated.

The first of three hits from the album, Mike’s debut single, “Cooler Than Me” was a massive RIAA double-platinum multi-format hit in the U.S., Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, Rhythmic, Adult Top 40, and Mainstream Top 40 charts.  The song charted high in another 18 countries, went to #5 on the UK national chart, #13 on the European chart, and #4 in Australia, where it hit triple-platinum.  The RIAA platinum “Please Don’t Go” followed up in the Top 10, and then “Bow Chicka Wow Wow” (with a remix featuring Lil Wayne).  Mike toured widely in 2010 and 2011, and came back in the spring 2014 with his 7-city Unplugged tour that launched at NPR’s World Café in Philadelphia, and featured audience Q&A’s at every show.
