Maroon 5 made big news today. Nielson Sound Scan and Billboard are reporting that their new single “Payphone” featuring Wiz Khalifa, set the record for most digital sales made by a group in one week ever in history. The lead track to their latest album, Overexposed sold a wopping 493,000, hearing the band a firm number 3 spot on the chart. Before Maroon 5 took the crown, this record was held by Black Eyed Peas “Boom Boom Pow” which was able to rake in a healthy 465,000 in its first week.
In addition to setting the record for highest digital sales in a week for a group, “Payphone” was also able to to rank in at the eighth highest sales in one week over all. Not too shaby. “Payphone”s album Overexposed is scheduled to hit stores on June 26th.
