Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis And Presidential Hopeful Mike Huckabee Unlawfully Uses Survivor’s “Eye of The Tiger” To Celebrate Their Rights
Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who has made headlines for refusing to grant marriage licenses to gay couples has now made the music news cycle too. This is because, after being held in contempt of court for her views, her release from jail was accompanied by a rally that featured the unauthorized walk up theme music usage of “Eye of The Tiger” by Survivor. Davis, who was boosted by former governor of Arkansas and republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, was quoted saying, “I just want to give God the glory,” she told a crowd, supporters while speaking over top of the Rocky III soundtrack staple.
“His people have rallied, and you are a strong people. We serve a living God who knows exactly where each and every one of us is at. Just keep on pressing. Don’t let down, because he is here. He’s worthy.”
Survivor guitarist and “Eye of The Tiger” co-writer, Frankie Sullivan, took to social media with his immediate reaction.
“NO! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use My Tune -‘The Eye Of The Tiger,’” Sullivan wrote on Facebook Tuesday. “C’mom Mike, you are not The Donald but you can do better than that.”
“If you have to put someone in jail, I volunteer to go. Let me go. Lock me up if you think that’s how freedom is best served,” Mike Huckabee told the cheering crowd at the rally. “Because folks, I am willing to spend the next eight years in the White House leading in this country. But I want you to know I’m willing to spend the next eight years in jail, but I’m not willing to spend the next years in tyranny under people who think they can take our freedom and conscience away.”
Davis’s Attorney has said that she will not relinquish her post of authority to grant marriage licenses in Kentucky. Therefore, she’s currently risking a whole new cycle of this very same contempt of court.
