JEREMIH SURPRISES WITH NEW 4-SONG EP THE CHOCOLATE BOX OUT NOW VIA DEF JAM RECORDINGS
(March 9, 2018 – New York, NY) Multi-platinum Def Jam icon Jeremih surprises fans today with the release of his 4-song EP, The Chocolate Box.
The surprise EP marks Chicago-born Jeremih’s first official release since 2015’s Late Nights, which spun off a trio of double-platinum R&B/hip-hop/pop crossover hits: “Don’t Tell ‘Em” (featuring YG), “Planes” (featuring J. Cole), and “Oui.” Jeremih, whose combined YouTube views have passed the 600 million mark, has the distinction of charting 17 RIAA gold, platinum, and multi-platinum smash singles, from 2009’s career-defining #1 “Birthday Sex,” up through 2016’s “Don’t Hurt Me” collab with Nicki Minaj, from producer DJ Mustard’s Cold Summer album.
Following Late Nights, Jeremih dropped the surprise mixtape Late Nights: Europe in July 2016; and single “I Think Of You” featuring Chris Brown and Big Sean in February 2017.
About JEREMIH:
Jeremih – the mega-talented singer, songwriter, producer, and multi–instrumentalist – was a musical prodigy since early childhood on Chicago’s infamous Southside. He was given his first set of drums at age three, and by the time he got to Morgan Park High School, he was also adept at piano. His intelligence enabled him to skip junior year, graduate high school at 16, and enter the University of Illinois as an engineering science major.
But when he started getting involved with on-campus talent shows, music took over. He transferred to Columbia College, one of Chicago’s premier art schools, and began collaborating on demos with music student Mick Schultz. Their mutual love for music led to the creation of “My Ride,” Jeremih’s first song to hit local radio, at Power-92.
“Birthday Sex” followed in October 2008, and Jeremih was soon the talk of Chicago, a hometown hero. He was signed to Def Jam in March 2009, and “Birthday Sex” was released the next month. It went on to become the summer single of the year, and was the lynchpin for his self-titled debut album Jeremih on Def Jam Recordings, which entered the Soundscan R&B chart at #1, and spun off the RIAA gold “Imma Star (Everywhere We Are)” (over 18 million YouTube views). His second album followed in 2010, All About You, containing back-to-back hits with the RIAA gold “I Like” featuring Ludacris, and double-platinum “Down on Me” featuring 50 Cent (over 244 million YouTube views).
After joining fellow Def Jam stars YG and Big Sean on J. Cole’s 29-city Forest Hills Drive Tour of the U.S. and Canada in July-August 2015, Jeremih returned with the RIAA gold Late Nights, his first new album in five years. The LP spun off a new trio of hits: the RIAA double-platinum “Don’t Tell ‘Em” (featuring fellow Def Jam rapper YG), the RIAA platinum “Planes” (featuring J. Cole), and RIAA platinum “Oui.” Jeremih and Def Jam surprised the world in July 2016 with the rush-release of the Late Nights: Europe mixtape.
Jeremih has become a core artist at Def Jam. “I feel like I’m on the best label I could be on,” he says. “I’m not intimidated by anyone musically, and I’m honored and inspired by the artists around me… I didn’t get this far by making bad decisions.”
