Jay-Z And Will Smith To Produce Emmett Till Mini-Series For HBO

Rapper/entrepreneur Jay-Z and Suicide Squad star Will Smith have teamed up with Producer Aaron Kaplan and HBO to produce a mini series about the racially motivated 1955 murder of African American teen Emmett Till. According to Variety, the pair “jumped at the chance to tell the story.” This six-part chronicling of 14 year old Till’s violent Mississippi based murder for flirting with then 21 year old grocery store co-owner Carolyn Bryant, will serves as the most recent addition to HBO’s socially conscious mini-series programming trend, following Show Me a Hero and Crime.
The harsh Nature of Till’s death was served as a rallying cry, which many credit as a cornerstone of what grew become the civil Rights Movement. Will and Jay’s Emit Till production is currently searching for a writer. Their most recent collaboration prior to this effort was Columbia Pictures’ 2014 remake of Annie. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
