Jay & Beyonce: Sports Agencies, Pepsi, and Music, Oh My!

Jay-Z and Beyonce have proven without a doubt that they are the true definition of a music industry power couple.  In addition to the already impressive announcement that the two were working together on The Great Gatsby soundtrack that was made earlier this week, Jay continued to flex his entrepreneurial muscle that much more by announcing the debut of Roc Nation Sports.  Roc Nation Sports is going to serve as a sports agency that will work its deal making through a partnership with entertainment agency powerhouse, CAA.  The Roc’s first sports client is going to be New York Yankees’ second basemen Robinson Cano.

Jay is a minority owner in the Brooklyn Nets Basketball team, so this is a move that could set Jay and Roc Nation up as a multifaceted institution in a whole new way.  This is particularly note worthy, because this extraordinary achievement wasn’t the end of the Carter family’s fantastic week of continuous upward mobility.  Beyonce kept it moving while pushing Pepsi in an eye catching way.

After teasing fans with a six second clip that was released yesterday, Beyonce debuted what has been confirmed to be her new single, “Grown Woman” in a brand new Pepsi commercial. The Spot makes full use of the 1:01 running time by placing different music video images of her in a series of different mirrors that she is looking at in present day. It is an endorsement blockbuster feature.

Timbaland, who is part of an all-star list of names tapped to craft the sound of Beyonce’s yet to be titled album, produced “Grown Woman.”  Other big names credited for working on her album include The Dream, Pharrell Williams, and Justin Timberlake. Beyonce hinted at her goals for the album’s sound in an interview with GQ back in February.

“I’ve been working with Pharrell and Timbaland and Justin Timberlake and Dream. We all started in the ’90s, when R&B was the most important genre, and we all kind of want that back: the feeling that music gave us.”

The Dream, who is also making headlines this week for releasing his new “Slow It Down” music video featuring Fabolous, discussed the power couple in an entertaining interview with Hot 97 FM’s Angie Martinez Show.  After telling Martinez that he has a habit of getting in trouble with Beyonce for prematurely revealing details about music they work on together, he then proceeded to drop not so subtle hints about a new Jay-Z solo album that is currently in the works.  He then went right back into back peddling.  Check it out below.

We can only imagine what else the couple has up their sleeves that Dream didn’t happen to spill yet.  Whatever it is, we expect to be impressed.  You can check out Bey’s Pepsi commercial below.  We’ll keep you posted on any new details.  Cheers!
