A Deeper Look At “American Idol’s 2012 Finale

Millions of people already know, American Idol made history again on its star studded finale . After a record setting 136 million votes America has officially crowned 21 year old, Philip Philips the 2012. “American Idol” The results were revealed after a fun 2 hours of some powerful and at times, very emotional live TV. Those two hours featured this years’ finalists getting to perform along side some music legends. The Idol winner Philip Philips was paired up with  Creedence Clearwater Revival’s John Fogerty. The two covered the CCR classics, “Have You Ever seen Rain” and “Blue Moon Rising.” The Idol runner up, Jessica Sanchez also got the opportunity to have a huge impact with her duet with the original Dreamgirls star, Jennifer Holiday. The two performed a powerful version of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.”

While the two Idol finalists were not busy belting out tunes on stage, some other Idol contestants were happy to shine in the spotlight as well.. Skylar Laine returned to perform a duet of “Turn On The Radio”  with Country music legend, Reba Mcentire. This season’s Hollie Cavanagh was joined on stage with 2007’s winner, Jordin Sparls to sing the up lifting ballad, “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”. The top 12 guys gave a very special performance as well/  .They all got together to sing a touching medley of Bee Gees’ hits dedicated to the memory of a friend of the show, Robin Gibb, who recently passed away on May 20th.

Also Idol alumni Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo joined Ryan Seacrest on stage to help create another special live TV moment away from music. Ace Young from season 5 of Idol got down on one knee to purpose marriage to the speechless season 3 runner up. The two have been dating since they first met on the set of the 2010 musical production of Hair on Broadway, in which they both co-starred.

When Idol contestants both past and present were not busy wowing America with their talent, Pop superstar, Rihanna got in on the action for a very sexy performance of her latest Dance track, “Where Have You Been.”

Just as she has done in the past, Idol judge and all around Pop star in her own right Jennifer Lopez also took to the stage for another hot performance. She premiered two new songs in that performance. The first was “Goin In” featuring Flo Rida, and the second was “Follow The Leader”, a song she is featured in by Reggaeton duo, Wisin & Yande. It is no secret that becoming an Idol judge has helped revive the career of Jennifer Lopez, this is a fact that Idol judge, Steven Tyler has noticed as well.

With hopes of also benefiting from the Idol lime light, Steven and the guys of Aerosmith graced the Idol stage for the first time to premiere their new single, “Legendary Child.” That song is the first from the group’s upcoming new album, Music from Another Dimension. The band then of course went out on top with a performance of their timeless classic, “Walk This Way.”

Finally everything wrapped up with Philip Philips emerging as the show’s champion at the end. Last year’s Scotty McCreery, presented Philips with a trophy, and handed an acoustic guitar to Ryan Seacrest to signal Philips’ victory performance of his new single “Home.” Philips becomes the second American Idol winner to be signed under the joint venture between 19 Entertainment and Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records,
