In case you missed it, over the weekend Taylor Swift made headlines for breaking her political silence for the first time in her career. on Sunday night, via an Instagram post, Swift threw her support behind Democratic candidates, Phil Bredesen, for Senate, and Jim Cooper for the US House in the highly publicized mid-term elections in her home state of Tennessee. Her endorsements drew much praise but also a fierce backlash from some far-right leaning fans of the Country turned Pop superstar. On Monday, (10/8/18) President Trump joined in the conversation by saying he now liked Swift’s music “about 25% less”. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down in the video above.
Trump’s reaction to Swift came hours before the announcement of her outspoken 2009 MTV VMA rival, Kanye West being scheduled to visit The White House to meet with Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Some topics of discussion will include prison reform, how to prevent gang violence and reducing violence in Kanye’s home city of Chicago.
