#ICYMI: Macklemore Discusses The Inspiration Behind Fatherhood Themed New Single “Growing Up” In An Opened Letter
In case you missed it, one of the biggest songs to be released this week came from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Along with the featured help of tender pop ballad singer Ed Sheeran, the socially conscious hip hop duo followed up their deeply personal and reflective 2012 debut smash album The Heist with a brand new single called “Growing Up.” As you can probably tell from the title, this new song is equally as personal in a whole new way for Macklemore. From the it’s first notes “Growing Up” tugs at heartstrings, as Macklemore melodically raps a love letter to his brand new baby daughter Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty.
What was perhaps even more touching was the opened letter Macklemore AKA Ben Haggerty wrote to the fans about where he was physically, emotionally, and spiritually when he found out that he was going to be a father. He articulated the recognition that his life’s huge chafe in a way that was both intimate and profound. It adds an entire new layer to what is heard when the song plays. The letter was posted to Macklemore, com as a digital image. To make it easier to read for those of you visiting our site, we broke it up into 5 parts and added them to the gallery found above. Chances are that after reading it, you will be thinking deeply about your family, and taking a close look at yourself at the same time. Enjoy!
