#ICYMI: Chris Pratt Reveals His Own “Awesome Mix” is Dr. Dre’s 2001

By Andrew McMahon

Over the last year Chris Pratt has quickly gone from comedic TV side kick (Parks and Recreations), to an A list movie star, with starring roles in two blockbuster movies (The Lego Movie and Guardians of the Galaxy). After stopping by DJ Whoo Kid’s radio show, Whoolywood Shuffle, to promote Guardians of the Galaxy, Pratt revealed his love and talent for Hip Hop.

When questions about his taste in music came up during the interview, Pratt confessed his passion for Dr. Dre’s 2001. He compared his relationship with it to his own Guardian’s character, Peter Quill’s “Awesome Mix Volume 1,” an 8 track walkman mixtape Quill risks his life to preserve on multiple occasions within the movie.

“Me and my friend lived in a van in Maui and we listened to that and smoked weed every day,” The Guardians star revealed in interview, stating “I know every word to that album.”

When asked to prove it, Pratt did just that, spitting out a near flawless rendition of Eminem’s verse from “Forgot About Dre.”

Not to be out done, Guardians Co-Star Vin Diesel (Groot), revealed he has some music skills of his own. Diesel’s cover of Sam Smith’s “Stay with me” definitely showed the big man has some surprisingly deep (barry manilow esque) tones, and his appearance on Fallon proved he can break it down too.

Though the Guardian Stars have each shown some refined musical prowess, we still don’t think they should quit their day job, as Guardians recently crossed the $100 Million mark, breaking box office records left and right. In addition to being a sci-fi action flick that comic book fans can love, the film also sports a fantastic soundtrack that is sure to leave you both  “Hooked” and “High on believing.”
