Hear “Maleficent”‘s Dark Version Of “Once Upon A Dream” By Lana Del Rey

It looks like Lana Del Rey is scoring big with another high profile movie soundtrack gig! You may have first caught a glimpse of the trailer for the new Disney film, Maleficent during the Grammy Awards on Sunday. If you listened closely to the music used in the new trailer, you will hear the voice of Lana Del Rey singing a creepy version of the Disney classic, “Once Upon A Dream.” For those of you that don’t already know, that song you heard was a reworked version of the theme to the 1959 Walt Disney animated classic, Sleeping Beauty. Maleficent is a live action re-telling of the story, this time with the focus being on the story’s iconic Disney villain, now being played by Angelina Jolie. It was actually Jolie who hand picked Lana to sing the new darker theme of the film herself. Maybe she enjoyed the use of Lana’s song, “Young And Beautiful” in Leonardo DiCaprio’s, The Great Gatsby? Well if you are one of the people who likes Lana’s version of “Once Upon A Dream”, it is available now for a free download on Google Play until February 3^rd. It will then be included on the Walt Disney Records’ soundtrack, which will also feature the film’s score by James Newton Howard. Disney veteran, Joe Roth, who most recently helmed the production of Oz The Great And Powerful for the studio, produced Maleficent for the studio as well! Special effects artist, turned director, Robert Stromberg, directed it. He is best known for the effects on films like James Cameron’s Avatar, Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland, and most recently, Disney’s Oz: The Great And Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi.
