Greyson Chance Wants To “Unfriend You” In New Video
Every time we hear from him, it is honestly hard to believe that he is only 13 years old. Greyson Chance rose to fame last year in true new millennium style. His 6th grade music festival performance of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” became a Youtube smash, racking up over 40 million views. Very soon after Chance was on the fast track to fame thanks in part to signing into a joint ventured deal between Geffen Records, Maverick Records, and an imprint label ran by comedian/Talk show host Ellen Degeneres called Eleveneleven Records.
Shortly after signing his deal, Chance released “Waiting Outside The Lines”, to a wide range of praise and acclaim. Now he’s releasing his second single called “Unfriend You”. Although the song’s title is a little tong and cheek, making the obvious reference to relationship statuses and social media, in true Greyson Chance fashion, the song is layered with a depth of instrumentation and subject matter beyond his years. Perhaps what’s even more interesting about this fact is that he is on his first major label album at an age when most of us were simply struggling our way through puberty, and when asked about his music, he consistently wants to place artistry above all. We may be biased, but for being a fresh 13 years old, songs like “Unfriend You” has Chance firmly achieving this goal while making all of us music geeks equally curious as to what he’s got up his sleeve next.
This may be because of the love for a wide range of credible musician influences that always appears to be at the forefront of his thought process. Chance credits the diverse list of artist like John Lennon, Lady Gaga, Elton John, and Augustana as personal inspirations. He’s definitely an artist we will be eagerly watching as he grows and develops to see what else he’s going to continue to evolve into. In the mean time, check out the music video for his latest single, “Unfriend You”. Enjoy!
