Fun Achieves Alternative Rock Record With “Some Nights”
Billboard is reporting that alternative Rock trio Fun have hit a new record with their breakthrough album Some Nights. The Mag’s records reportedly indicate that the album’s title track has already reached the number 3 spot on the Alternative Rock chart , and on Thursday August 2nd the song will move to the chart’s top spot. When that happens that will make “Some Nights” the second number 1 in a row to come from the album. The first was their smash hit “We Are Young” featuring Janelle Monae. This is significant because few Alternative acts have achieved this milestone twice in a row.
According to Billboard, the only two acts to reach this same achievement are Green Day, and Alanis Morissette. Green Day first topped the Alternative Chart on June 11th 1994 with their breakthrough album Dookie. The album featured the back to back number 1’s of “Long View” and “Basket Case”. “Basket Case” first topped the chart on August 20th 1994, where it stayed for five consecutive weeks.
Alanis Morissette hit this same mark one year after Green Day with her hugely successful and influential break through album Jagged Little Pill. As fans are likely to remember, she rocketed to the top of the charts with help form her ground breaking smash “You Oughta Know”, which ruled the chart for four whole weeks in July of 1995. Jagged Little Pill’s second number 1 then followed in October of that year, when her hit “Hand In My Pocket” also topped the chart. Her ability to to achieve this feet helped cement her in Pop music history, and allowed Jagged Little Pill to sell an astounding 14.8 million copies.
Clearly, this isn’t a bad club for the guys of Fun to be in. Cheers to your success fellas. Keep up the good work.
