Everyone is talking about Ed Sheeran’s recent appearance on The Late Late Show for a brand new Carpool Karaoke. The segment aired yesterday (June 7) during the first of three nights that the show will broadcast from London. Watch the full segment above.
The latest installment of the wildly popular series finds the multiple GRAMMY award winning, British singer-songwriter and late night television host performing hits like “Shape Of You” and current single “Castle On The Hill” from Sheeran’s latest album “÷” (pronounced “divide”). The hilarious segment also features the pair singing some of Sheeran’s previous hits as well as some surprising covers. Coupled with Sheeran and Corden’s easy rapport (they even co-wrote an alternate version of “Castle” on the fly!), it could be the best Carpool Karaoke yet.
Sheeran’s 3rd studio album “÷” (pronounced “divide”) has solidified him as the world’s biggest male artist, topping the charts in 102 countries around the world, including the US – where Platinum certified album has never left the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 since debuting at #1 upon its March release – and his native UK – where it topped the Official Albums Chart with the 3rd highest week one sales of any album in the chart’s history and is now 6x-Platinum.
Platinum-certified, current single “Castle On The Hill” is the follow up to Sheeran’s 4x-Platinum, blockbuster lead single “Shape Of You.” The two songs debuted at #6 and #1 respectively on the Billboard Hot 100 upon their tandem release earlier this year, establishing Sheeran as the first artist to ever have two singles make simultaneous top 10 debuts in the chart’s 58-year history. “Shape Of You” went on to hold the top spot on the chart for a staggering 12 weeks. “Castle On The Hill” is rapidly catching up to “Shape Of You” on the radio charts, where they are both Top 5 at Hot AC, and #11 and #5 at Top 40. Sheeran first premiered “Castle On The Hill” back in February with a performance on “Saturday Night Live” and shortly thereafter performed the song during an outdoor concert in NYC’s Rockefeller Plaza on Today. He has since gone on to perform “Castle On The Hill” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and most recently the 2017 Billboard Music Awards.
Sheeran’s entire 60 date North American arena tour sold out in a matter of minutes and is set to kick off on June 29th at Kansas City, Mo’s Sprint Center. The cross-country trek – which includes 3-night stands at both Los Angeles’ Staples Center and Brooklyn’s Barclay’s Center – continues through early October.
