Drake Takes Good Care In Making New Album “Take Care”
Rapper Drake has been building a crazy amount of buzz all over the web since November for his highly anticipated second album entitled “Take Care”. Much of this anticipation is built up thanks to his twitter. Through a combo of blog posts and tweets, he has been able to drop hints and previews of what his new album will have to offer, and in some ways do what appears to be track bata testing when evaluating if songs will make the final track listing.
Evaluation and critical thinking seems to be the running theme for what will be the Take Care album. This is because while he has used Twitter to make cool announcements like working with producer Pharrell Williams by tweeting a picture of the two of them together, he has also released a series of tracks as part of what seems to be an extension of his album creation process. An example of this was when he released the song “Trust Issues”. Through Twitter Drake is quoted as saying, it was an idea that was inspired by “I’m On One”, a song he recorded with hip hop DJ/producer DJ Khaled. He went on to explain that the song was made “just for fun”. Twitter also debuted the tracks “Marvin’s Room”, and “Dreams Money Can Buy” which features, and therefore most likely is also produced by, Pharrell. (we are unable to confirm specific songs production credits at the time of writing this article.) At the time that those songs were Tweeted, it was said that neither song was confirmed to be on the album either, but that a single would be decided on in July. Now that it is July and Drake has filmed a music video for “Marvin’s Room”, we deduced it to be the album’s first single.
Looks like Drake made a great choice. “Marvin’s Room” is a layered audio painting that describes personal reflection on the loneliness, frustration and regret that appear to come along with fame. The scenario strikes a universally emotional cord by him having the song’s plot centered around the venerability of him drunk dialing a lost love, longing for the security of a bond he once had. It is a wonderful concept record, and the perfect example of the extra time and reflection he illuded to when he compared the making of Take Care, with that of his debut album, Thank Me Later in an interview with Y.C Radio 1.
“I didn’t get to take the time that I wanted to on that record (Thank Me Later). I rushed a lot of the songs and sonically I didn’t get to sit with the record and say, ‘OK, well maybe I should change this verse.’ “Once it was done, it was done. That’s why my new album is called Take Care because I get to take my time this go-round.”
It looks like he achieved his goal. We Can’t wait to hear the album as a whole. Take Care is reportedly scheduled for release in October.
