YMCMB Civil War: Drake Drops “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” Over Night Without Any Warning From The Record Label

Drake surprised everyone with the unannounced release of a 17 song project titled If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late early this morning. Just before midnight last night, Drake took to twitter and tweeted out a link for the new project to his 20+ million followers.

It is not yet known whether this surprise release is the much anticipated album, which was tentatively titled Views From the 6, or whether this is mixtape priced to sell as an album. There seems to be some supporting evidence for both scenarios. First, some artwork supposedly for his next album is included on the cover for If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, perhaps meaning this was the album which was previously under the working title Views From the 6. However, in a post on his website which includes track credits and a handwritten note, Drake refers to the work as a “tape”.

Given the recent civil war over at Young Money/Cash Money, it is important to note that If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late is a copyrighted work of Cash Money. This is important to note due to the situation over there. While Drake’s contract with Cash Money/Young Money is private, rumor has it that he signed a four album deal. If this surprise release legally counts as an album release, it may free Drake to follow Lil’ Wayne away from the grips of Cash Money if Wayne is able to successfully free himself as well. Lil’ Wayne of course filed a $51 million lawsuit against Cash Money and his former close friend and business partner Birdman.
