Who is ready to take a magic carpet ride down memory lane with a timeless Disney classic? Well you’re in luck, because Disney is releasing their 31st animatic feature, Aladdin on Blu Ray for the first time. This version of the release has extra bonus material featuring the late Robin Williams who famously played the Genie in the film. You will see alternate cuts of scenes, full of adlibs, outtakes and celebrity impersonations that were recorded by Williams for the character but never used.

The cast and crew of Aladdin reunited on ABC’s Good Morning America last week to reminisce about Williams’ performance. In that interview, Aladdin composer Alan Menken remembered how hard Robin worked in the recording session to get the jazzy feel of the Gene’s song “Friend Like Me” down correctly.

Brad Kane, the singing voice of Aladdin, and Lea Salonga Princess Jasmine’s original singing voice also helped perform the film’s love theme, “A Whole New World” for the first time in over 20 years, with Menken in the ABC studio.

As the lead single released from the soundtrack in November of 1992, “A Whole New World” helped make the Aladdin Soundtrack one of the most successful soundtracks from an animated film in pop music history. As of 2014, the soundtrack has sold close to 3 million copies in the United States. As a result the song won the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 65th Academy Awards in 1993. Brad Kane and and Lea Salonga gave a memorable performance in costume as their characters that night.

“A Whole New World” has gone down in history as the first, and only single from a Disney Animated feature top the Billboard Hot 100. The single version recorded by R&B stars, Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle sold over six hundred thousand singles domestically alone. It replaced Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 on March 6, 1993. Disney’s Aladdin Diamond Edition was released digitally on September 28th, and arrives physically in stores on Blu Ray on October 13th!
