As the nation returns from celebrating the holiday season echos of the the tragic shooting that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School that took place on December 14th still ring in all of our heads. To help the healing process for all of us, and most importantly for those directly effected by the tragedy, the town of Newtown Connecticut is making a conscious effort to turn to music to help with the healing processes. Plans have been made for a series of concerts dedicated toward the healing and supporting up the victims of the tragedy. The first is a free concert for Hope and Healing at the Webster Bank Arena on January 15th. Tickets for the event were distributed to capacity with in an hour of availability. Participants are reported to include contemporary Christian rock groups like Casting Crowns, and Toby Mac, as well as Mandisa of American Idol’s season 5.
That will then be followed by back to back benefit concerts scheduled to be held at the the Ridgefield Playhouse on January 19th and 20th. All proceeds raised from those events will reportedly go toward a memorial park and psychological assistance to those traumatized by the shooting not even a month ago. The bill for that concert includes Brickell, Bernie Williams, Kicking Daisies, Carly and Eliza, and Bobby Paltauf. January 20′s lineup includes Johnny Winter and his band, Ed Kowalczyk from Live, Chris Berardo, the Desperados, and more. Tickets will range from $45, $75, $150, or $250. Interested parties can also buy a $400 two day package. More information about the event details can be found at ridgefieldplayhouse.org or calling the box office at 203-438-5795.
If you are one of the many of us that are unable to attend those specific events but want to share in the sober reflection of the tragedy, singer R. Kelly has created a new song to help unify and heal our collective spirits. The song known as “I Know You Are Hurting” was published for free distribution on Youtube. We’ve provided it below for you to listen to.
No words can express the proper condolences to a situation like this. We only hope these efforts genuinely help those effected. May God bless them all.
