Clizbeats Featured Artist Kevin Ross Tops The Urban AC Chart As His Debut album “The Awakening” Is Released

Clizbeats. featured artist, Motown’s Kevin Ross’ debut album, The Awakening, was finally released on March 24th! Check it out by clicking HERE. The album contains “Long Song Away,” which is now in the No. 1 position on both the Nielsen/BDS and Mediabase Urban Adult radio charts after 27 weeks. The chart-topping achievement makes Ross the first debut Motown artist to reach No. 1 at the format since 2010, according to Billboard. Spotify streams of “Long Song Away” have already surpassed two million. View the official video above.

The Awakening also includes Ross’ 2016 collaboration with Chaz French, “Be Great (Intro),” which was heard in “Grey’s Anatomy,” and a remix of the track that features BJ the Chicago Kid.The powerful, doo-wop inspired “Pick You Up” finds Ross giving a pep talk to himself, mindful that he must keep his eyes on the prize in order to overcome the obstacles in his path. In the official video for “Pick You Up,” which premiered on VIBE.com and can be seen below, Ross addresses a broken mirror – a reminder of a time when he felt broken and alone in life. Writing the song lifted his spirits and now he hopes it will encourage and motivate others.

Soul Tracks observed, “The Awakening…brims with autobiographical lyrics and a desire to recalibrate Motown’s fabled hit-machine approach with a modern twist.” The Knockturnal predicted, “Kevin Ross is sure to blow up this year.”

In a Billboard.com article published on the day before, The Awakening was released (3/23/17)  Kevin called his chart topping success a gift from God.

“I really feel great about the record going No. 1,” Ross told Billboard. “It’s truly a gift from God and truly a blessing. I didn’t have any expectations since it was my first record. I’m just so grateful for the opportunity and platform that I’ve been given to share the music and message.”

In that same Billboard.com article by Amaya Mendizabal, it was reported that Ross’ current hit, “Long Song Away” is also making its way up the R&B/Hip Hop Chart as well. in the week ending on March 16, 2017, the song goes up a notch, now peaking at No.12 in its 19th week on the chart. Kevin now reaches an impressive 11.3 million audience at that radio format.
