Clay Aiken Announces Running For Congress In Very Emotional Video

Video Still From Clay Aiken’s Campaign Announcement Video

American Idol season 2 runner up Clay Aiken announced yesterday that he would be running for Congress. In the video he used to declare his candidacy, he described that he plans run for North Carolina’s seat in the House of Representatives as a Democrat. He explained that he was motivated to throw his hat in the ring because of his difficult childhood and his awareness of the average person’s struggle.

“For most Americans, there are no golden tickets — at least not like the kind you see on TV,” he exclaimed. “More families are struggling today than at any time in our history, and here in North Carolina, we’ve suffered more than our share of pain.” Aiken then goes on to say: “I’m not a politician. I don’t ever want to be one. But I do want to help bring back, at least to my corner of Washington, the idea that someone can go to Washington to represent all the people, whether they voted for you or not, and maybe we can play a small part in igniting that change across the rest of our country.”

We found his announcement very interesting, and very moving. Clay does a really nice job at leveraging his fame, his work as a special needs educator, and the struggle of his personal background as very well articulated examples of why he’s qualified for the position. His video is really worth a look. Check it out below.
