BET Makes History With “The New Edition Story” And Inspires Another New Edition Reunion
The New Edition Story Cast Re-lives New Edition’s “Home Again” Era from 1996BET made history last week with their acclaimed mini-series, The New Edition Story. The biographical drama that told the story about groundbreaking R&B/Pop group aired over three consecutive nights from January 24th to 26th, and was a massive hit. The show boasted an unprecedented 29 million total viewers during premiere week (including premiere telecasts and encores, on both BET and Centric). Deadline.com reports that BET’s broadcast alone brought in 15.7 million viewers in the 18-49 demographic and 28.4 million total viewers in its full premiere week.
As a result, BET was the top network on social media for all 3 nights it aired, easily becoming the most social TV show on both Facebook and Twitter.
New Edition was also trending on YouTube as fans began posting reviews/reaction videos, while streaming the group’s VEVO channel for all their music videos. One of our favorite reviews came from Andre Meadows from the YouTube channel, Black Nerd Comedy. Normally Andre is known doing videos that involve him talking about, superhero movies, sci-fi, nostalgia, and pop culture. This is the first time we saw him get nostalgic about some of his favorite music growing up as he reviews The New Edition. We have been a fan of his for a long time and enjoy his perspective on what this mini series meant to him, and what it meant to the black community.
