OCTOBER 29, 2010. (Philadelphia, PA)—After self-releasing her critically acclaimed solo debut album The 26th Power, and a recent follow up EP entitled The City: Soul Suite, much-buzzed Philadelphia singer and songwriter taragirl makes her long-awaited music video debut with the EP’s title track “The City.” Known for her sassy songs and big voice, “The City” celebrates the ups and downs of life as an independent artist. The hook captures a universal feeling of frustration, but also persistence in overcoming life’s challenges: One day you “own this city,” and the next day you feel like the city owns you. With her hometown of Philadelphia as both a gritty and beautiful backdrop, the video, shot in HD, debuts Friday, October 29, 2010 on taragirl’s official Vimeo channel (http://vimeo.com/channels/taragirl). The video was shot over two days in Center City Philadelphia and was directed by Sosena Solomon of A Dopest Ethiopian Productions.
Currently in the studio recording new music, taragirl has kept up a rigorous performance schedule including two recent headlining gigs at World Café Live — one that doubled as the screening premiere for her new video. An artist who has performed alongside the likes of Chrisette Michele, Chaka Khan, and Amy Winehouse, taragirl will be performing next on Thursday, November 4th at Sullivan Hall in New York City sharing the bill with fellow soul singer Markeisha Ensley (http://www.markeisha.com). Located at 214 Sullivan Street, doors open at 7:30PM and tickets are on sale now.
