3 Things You Didn’t Know About Colbie Caillat

by Sean Smith
Colbie Caillat released her fifth studio album Gypsy Heart earlier this week. The lead single for the new album is “Try” which is an inspiring song for women about self acceptance. I played it for my 7-year-old daughter Mariah last night and she was really feeling it, singing along to the uplifting chorus by the song’s end. I got the chance to listen to the rest of the album yesterday as well, and I was equally impressed with the rest of the tracks on Gypsy Heart. So if you are a fan of Colbie Caillat’s and haven’t yet given the new album I listen, I would highly encourage you to go do so. You won’t be disappointed.
But with her new album being released this week, I thought it would be a good time to share with you three facts about Colbie Caillat that you may not have known before.
1. Colbie Caillat’s father, Ken Caillat, produced a Grammy Award-Winning Record of the Year.
Ken Caillat has produced a number of albums over the years including his own daughter’s. But one of his most famous production credits came in the 1970s. He was a producer on the 1977 Fleetwood Mac album Rumours, which won the prestigious Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 1978.
2. Colbie Caillat was inspired to become a singer in part after watching Lauryn Hill perform in the film Sister Act 2.
With Colbie Caillat’s dad being such an accomplished producer it’s obvious that music is in her genes. And while she took piano lessons as a child, it wasn’t until she saw Lauryn Hill performing in the movie Sister Act 2 that she decided she wanted to become the singer that she is today. So for that, we all thank you Ms. Hill.
3. Colbie Caillat unsuccessfully auditioned for American Idol not just once, but twice!
Both times that Colbie Caillat auditioned for idol she never got past the pre-audition stage. So she never even had the opportunity to perform on the televised portion of American Idol. Given her voice, this in fact in itself is hard to believe, but what makes it even harder to comprehend is that during her second try at the show she actually performed her eventual breakthrough hit “Bubbly” in an effort to make the show with no avail. So not only did the folks over at American Idol miss out on helping to launch the career of successful pop artist, but they also failed to recognize an eventual top 10 Billboard hit in “Bubbly”.
So now that you know a bit more about Colbie Caillat, make sure you go check out her new album Gypsy Heart which was released earlier this week.
