Zayne Malik’s New Musical Direction Without One Direction

Zayne Malik “I Won’t Mind”

Ever since the announcement last week, Zayn Malik’s departure from One Direction continues to be one of the hottest developing stories in Pop music. Some media outlets have been getting reactions from fans and others in the entertainment business, those reactions ranged from heartbroken, to broken up with laughter. Love him or hate him, everyone is talking about Zayn. So now that he has officially left One Direction, the next logical question is what does the band have to say? Well, in case you missed it the band released an official statement, which included a quote from executive producer, Simon Cowell. You can see that statement in its entirety below.

After five incredible years Zayn Malik has decided to leave One
Direction. Niall, Harry, Liam and Louis will continue as a four-piece and look forward to the forthcoming concerts of their world tour and
recording their fifth album, due to be released later this year.

Zayn says: “My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologise to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.”

One Direction say: “We’re really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally
respect his decision and send him all our love for the future. The past five years have been beyond amazing, we’ve gone through so much together, so we will always be friends. The four of us will now continue. We’re looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour.”

Simon Cowell says: “I would like to say thank you to Zayn for everything he has done for One Direction. Since I first met Zayn in 2010, I have grown very, very fond – and immensely proud – of him. I have seen him grow in confidence and I am truly sorry to see him leave. As for One Direction, fans can rest assured that Niall, Liam, Harry and Louis are hugely excited about the future of the band.”

This official departure from One Direction came after Zayn was “Signed off” of the group’s current world tour due to stress. So with that said, naturally the next question from many is, how is Zayn doing after leaving One Direction? Well, it turns out he is doing pretty well. He has already been dabbling in trying some solo music. After returning home to the UK, Zayn linked up with “La La La” hit-maker Naughty Boy over the weekend to record his first demo recording as a solo artist. That song, called “I Won’t Mind” made its debut via a tweet from Naughty boy that originally took you to a Soundcloud page that hosted the song. It has since been removed, but now can be heard on Zayn’s new Vevo account. All sources connected to One Direction say that Zayn still has a good relationship with both the group, and Simon Cowell Of Syco Music, so we can only imagine that “I Won’t Mind” is intended for release by Syco/Columbia like all previously released One Direction music. As we previously reported One Direction intends to carry on as a quartet and does not intend to replace Zayn. One Direction played their first show without Zayn in South Africa earlier this week. They tour Europe in June before hitting the US in July. Also stay tuned for details on their fifth album coming soon. Take a listen to Zayn’s “I Won’t Mind” below!
