Alternative Rock band Young The Giant has gained a great deal of notoriety over the past year.  Their first single “My Body” reached as high as the number five spot on the Billboard Alternative Rock chart and their performance of that song at the 2011 MTV VMA’s was praised as one of the best to come from the award show night that night.  Now the band’s track record of success continues with the recent release of  their second single “Cough Syrup”.

While the song was released as an official single this past summer, we felt compelled to give it as spotlight  because of its fantastic staying power. The song spent eighteen week’s on the Billboard Alternative Rock chart where it  peaked by contending for the top spot.   One interesting fact is that although “Cough Syrup” is the second single off of the Young The Giant debut, the song actually dates back to 2008.  The track was originally  used on an EP entitled Shake My Hand that they put out in 2008 under their former band name The Jakes.  Now the song has successfully been re-release and has done  a tremendous job of building buzz for the band now known as Young The Giant.

One cool thing to note about all this is that artists repurposing hits like Young The Giant did recently, has proven to be a formula of break through success for some now very well known artists.  The smash hit “Cupid’s Chokehold” by Gym Class Heroes was a re-release of sorts as it was first released in 2005 but did not garner the accolades it deserved until it was released again by the band in 2006.  Clizbeats Featured Artist and Grammy Award Winner Robin Thicke also had a similar experience with his song “Oh Shooter”. Originally serving as the opening track on his 2003 A Beautiful World, the track gained  considerable notoriety when a remixed  version of the song was released as the third single from Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter II album and then eventually re-released again as part of Thicke’s second studio album The Evolution of Robin Thicke.

Take a listen to Young The Giant below and see if you think they might hit the same stride with their music. Also, if their VMA performance was any indication, there live show is something not to be missed.  So we have compiled for you some of their recently released tour dates.  Go ahead and pre-order those tickets as soon as possible!
