Wanted In The USA: SENSATIONAL UK VOCAL GROUP THE WANTED ARRIVE IN THE U.S. FOR 3-WEEK PROMOTION AND PERFORMANCE CAMPAIGN IN SUPPORT OF FIRST U.S. SINGLE, “GLAD YOU CAME”
(Jan. 17, 2012 – New York, NY) U.S. audiences are warned to be on the lookout for THE WANTED, five young lads who have created a sensation in the UK, Ireland, South East Asia, and across Europe over the past two years, piling up a string of five Top 3 singles in the UK. Their latest #1 hit “Glad You Came” (2011) will now be their premiere U.S. single on Mercury/Island Def Jam, and has received major support from mainstream radio markets including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Detroit, as well as a UK Brit Awards nomination for Best British Single. THE WANTED made their highly anticipated US TV debut last week with a performance of “Glad You Came” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (http://ellen.warnerbros.com/the_wanted), which has already resulted in an abundance of new supporters and believers in the group. “Glad You Came” is the lynchpin of their second UK album, whose U.S. summer release date will be announced in the weeks ahead.
Following their sold–out U.S. debut show at NYC’s Gramercy Theater in October (2011), THE WANTED are back in the U.S. for a whirlwind 3-week promotion and performance campaign kicking off January 17th in South Florida, and wrapping up at the Roxy in Los Angeles on February 8th. (Please see itinerary below.) Then it’s back home to the UK for a round of rehearsals prior to a 2-week, 8-city tour ending in March.
Organized in 2009, THE WANTED – Tom Parker, Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, and Nathan Sykes – have become front-page news with their ferociously infectious tunes, rock solid friendship and laddish charms. Since the release of their debut #1 single “All Time Low” (from their self-titled debut album of 2010), they have transcended the ‘boy band’ mould and brought a blast of much-needed fresh air to British pop music.
From their roots as a band who paid their dues performing in seedy nightclubs and a school tour that took them across the whole of the UK, they ascended to a BRIT Award nomination (‘Best British Single’ for “All Time Low”) and the sold-out nationwide ‘Behind Bars’ Tour in March-April 2011. They earned slots at the iTunes and V festivals in July and August, with 15,000 hollering revelers packing out the Big Blue Tent at V for a set that many agreed was a highlight of the UK festival.
In addition to their rigorous tour schedule, no UK band in memory has received as much television exposure over the past year as THE WANTED. At the 4Music Awards, they won double honors as ‘Biggest Breakthrough’ and ‘Hottest Boys.’ At the prestigious Arqiva Awards, they won ‘Best Breakthrough Artist UK On Commercial Radio 2011.’
In early 2012, THE WANTED will embark on their inaugural UK Arena tour, to culminate at London’s 02 Arena in March, before follow-up tour legs across America, Europe and Australia. “In the end,” says Max, “I want to look back on all this and say, ‘I’ve traveled the world with these boys, and not only have I made friends for life, we’ve done something that hardly anyone gets to do. Be successful in music worldwide.’ And I know I will never forget that
