U2’s Bono Receives Metal Plate and 18 Screws Following Bike Injury: Intensive Therapy Is Required

U2 singer Bono will require “Intensive Therapy” to recover from the “recent cycling spill” that resulted in several injuries when he was riding his bike in Central Park on Sunday. Following the “high energy bike accident” the “Beautiful Day” singer was rushed to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center’s Emergency Department where he underwent “multiple X-rays and CAT scans” and a five hours of surgery.
Reports state that among the many injuries the singer suffered, were facial fracture involving the orbit of his eye.”
According to Orthopedic trauma surgeon Dean Lorich, MD, “[Bono] was taken emergently to the operating room…where the elbow was washed out and debrided, a nerve trapped in the break was moved and the bone was repaired with three metal plates and 18 screws.”
Although it is still too early to know how long it will take for him to recover, Lorich tells Rolling Stone that although Bono will “require intensive and progressive therapy,” “a full recovery is expected.”
As we join much of the world in wishing U2’s front man a speedy recovery, his absence was felt most noticeably on late night TV. Bono and the boys of U2 were scheduled to do a brief residency at NBC’s Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The band was all set to serve as musical guest this week as part of promoting their new album Songs Of Innocence prior to Bono’s injury. After learning that U2’s guest appearance would have to be postponed. Jimmy teamed up with his famed Hip Hop house band, The Roots in true Tonight Show fashion to perform in U2’s place, complete with Jimmy Imitating Bono, wearing his own version of the singer’s trademark shades.
