#TIL: The Original TMNT Theme Song was Created by Chuck Lorre of “Two and a Half Men”

 Today the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opens in theaters across the nation. The film of course is a reboot of the iconic TMNT franchise. The franchise is originally born out of the graphic novels which were originally released in 1984. That then spawned a cartoon series which premiered in 1987, three feature films in the early 1990s, three more animated television series, and then two more feature films, to include this latest reboot being released today. Not to mention the many action figures, lunch boxes, and video games that the TMNT franchise has also spawned.

Like most people my age (late twenties/early thirties), I was first introduced to the TMNT franchise through the original 1987 animated television series. I grew up watching the four heroes in half-shell’s taking on the evil likes of Bebop and Rocksteady, Shredder, and Krang. I like to think that I know a good bit about one of my favorite childhood cartoons. However, I never knew until today that the classic theme song to the original TMNT cartoon was created by none other than Chuck Lorre. Today we know Chuck Lorre as the creative force behind successful sitcoms like Dharma & Greg, Two and a Half Men, and The Big Bang Theory. But before Chuck Lorre made his name with these sitcoms, he was busy composing the soundtrack and the theme song for my beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon.

Mr. Lorre recounted his  experience of creating the song in the same recording studio as 80s rock band rock band Journey while talking with the Archives Of American Television. Check out the video below!
