Canadian Country/Pop superstar Shania Twain has just announced that she will be embarking on a 48 stop tour later this year. Twain, who recently finished up a two year residency performing at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, also announced that this summer’s tour will also serve as the 49-year-old singer’s last. The farewell tour kicks off in Seattle, WA on June 5th and ends in Fresno, CA on August 24th, and includes 13 shows in her native Canada. You can check out all the stops and dates on Shania Twain’s upcoming Rock This Country Tour here.
This final tour from the “From This Moment” singer will mark the first time she has hit the road since her 2004 Up Tour. Shania Twain is also looking to do something else this year she hasn’t done it quite awhile, release a new album. In an interview with Robin Roberts on ABC’s Good Morning America, Twain revealed that she’s recording new music everyday and would like to release her fifth studio-album sometime after the tour ends. Of course Shania Twain made a huge commercial splash with the release of her third studio-album Come On Over. That album, released in November of 1997, became the best-selling country music album of all-time as well as one of the best-selling albums regardless of genre of all-time. Come On Over is also an album that contains the subject of this week’s #tbt here on Clizbeats, “You’re Still the One”.
As mentioned, Come On Over was a monster success for Shania Twain. While her two prior albums performed well on the country charts, it was Come On Over that served as Twain’s breakthrough introduction to a wider popular audience. “You’re Still the One” was released as the third single from that album, but was the first to be released to pop radio. It not only reached the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart upon its release, but it also reached as high as the second spot on the more mainstream Billboard Hot 100 chart. The lyrical content of “You’re Still the One” was personal for Shania Twain. She wrote the song with her then husband, and record producer, Robert John “Mutt” Lange. The song is about the couple’s relationship and more specifically, in response to some criticism of their marriage. At the time, some critics alleged that Shania Twain was only in a relationship with Lange to further her career. Of course that was not the case, despite the fact that the two would later divorce in 2010 after 17 years of marriage when Lange was found to be cheating on Shania Twain with a friend of hers.
So in light of the announcement that Shania Twain will be embarking on her final tour this summer, this week we remember her 1998 single “You’re Still the One”. Enjoy!
