THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS: THE ALBUM” RACES TOWARD RELEASE WITH ANOTHER MASSIVE SINGLE/VIDEO: “GOOD LIFE” BY G-EAZY & KEHLANI
Artist Partner Group, Atlantic Records and Universal Pictures continue the historic rollout of “THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS: THE ALBUM” with another blockbuster new single/video: “Good Life” from the ultimate Bay Area-duo of multi-platinum superstar G-Eazy & GRAMMY®-nominated R&B songstress Kehlani. The musical companion to the film will arrive in stores and at all online retailers Friday, April 14, the same day Universal Pictures’ THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS opens in theatres across the country.
“Good Life” by G-Eazy & Kehlani is joined by a new high-energy companion video that includes never-before-seen footage from THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS. The “Good Life” video was released today and has since been shared on the official “FAST AND FURIOUS” Facebook page, which has more than 60 million likes.
“Kehlani is one of my favorite people on earth. She’s incredibly talented but beyond that she has a special soul,” said G-Eazy. “It’s easy for us to work together because we go way back, that’s one of my closest homies. She has a great energy and this song is all about that.”
“Collaborating with G is always special because it’s deeper than music, it’s friendship, it’s wanting a day-one to succeed alongside you… succeeding with family,” said Kehlani. “Being a part of the album and the Fast and Furious franchise is an honor. As not only a fan of great action films, but a super fan of this specific franchise, I honestly couldn’t even believe I was chosen. I grew up watching the Fast and Furious films, waiting for the next one with my little siblings. It really brought us together. And the music video has all the amazing elements the films have: dope cars, real friendship, cool cities and kick-ass individuals.”
“Good Life” is the follow-up to G-Eazy’s RIAA platinum-certified “WHEN IT’S DARK OUT,” which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” and “Top Rap Albums” charts upon its 2015 release. The album is highlighted by the 4x-platinum certified No. 1 smash, “Me Myself & I,” (Feat. Bebe Rexha), a true global phenomenon that earned more than 1 billion streams worldwide. GRAMMY®-nominated Kehlani recently released her critically acclaimed Atlantic Records debut album “SWEETSEXYSAVAGE” – featuring the hit singles “Distraction” and “CRZY” – which made a phenomenal debut upon its January 2017 release, entering the SoundScan/Billboard 200 at No. 3 while also coming in at No. 1 on the “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” chart.
In the past two weeks since the March 3 announcement of “THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS: THE ALBUM,” the soundtrack has seen a storm of high-profile media attention for not only the reveal of the “STACKED” track listing, but also with the release two smash singles: “Go Off,” from Lil Uzi Vert, Quavo & Travis Scott; and “Hey Ma” (Feat. Camila Cabello) [Spanish Version], from Pitbull & J Balvin. Combined, the two singles/music videos have been streamed more than 37 million times worldwide in just two weeks.
Last Friday marked the epic release of “Hey Ma” (Feat. Camila Cabello) [Spanish Version], the historic first-time-ever collaboration from Latin GRAMMY® Award-winning global reggaeton superstar J Balvin and the GRAMMY® Award-winning international music icon Pitbull, made even more special with the featured inclusion of rising Cuban-American chart-topping singer/songwriter Camila Cabello. The track skyrocketed to No. 1 on the iTunes chart in ten countries, including the US Latin chart, and hit the top 10 in 22 countries worldwide. “Hey Ma” (Feat. Camila Cabello) [Spanish Version] is streaming now at the official Warner Music En Español YouTube channel, where it drew more than 10 million individual views in its first 72 hours alone. English language versions of the Latin anthem and its companion video will premiere on the album and film’s North American release day, April 14.
Pitbull & J Balvin’s “Hey Ma” (Feat. Camila Cabello) [Spanish Version] was also greeted with a tsunami of media attention spanning Rolling Stone, E! Online, Entertainment Weekly, Pop Crush, Latina, and many more. VIBE raved: “(Cabello’s) crossover appeal is ever-present as she shines next to the genre-bending Pitbull and reggaetonero great J Balvin with ease.”MTV.com agreed: “It’s hard to picture anyone else shining alongside Mr. 305 and the Colombian pop star as brilliantly as (Cabello) does.” “Catchy AF,” affirmed Teen Vogue, noting Pitbull & J Balvin’s “Hey Ma” (Feat. Camila Cabello) [Spanish Version] is “unsurprisingly, ~flames emojis.~”
“THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS: THE ALBUM” exploded out of the gate with “Go Off,” which drew wide-ranging media coverage, spanning Entertainment Weekly, MTV, The FADER, Complex, Pigeons and Planes, XXL, SPIN, YAHOO! Music, and countless others. Rolling Stone praised the video for its “cuts of the rappers that seamlessly dovetail in to match the movie’s action-packed scenes.” “Go Off” “echoes the (FURIOUS) series’ aesthetic qualities,” declared Pitchfork, “with plenty of pyrotechnics and sports cars, as well as clips from the new movie itself.” The all-star hip-hop track is spinning now at multi-format radio outlets nationwide, while its explosive companion video – which racked up more than 5 million views in its first week alone – is streaming now at Lil Uzi Vert’s official YouTube channel.
“THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS: THE ALBUM” showcases 13 exclusive new tracks curated specifically for THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS, including unparalleled collaborations by Young Thug, 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa & PnB Rock; Jeremih, Ty Dolla $ign & Sage The Gemini; and PnB Rock, Kodak Black & A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. Exclusive new tracks from Migos, Post Malone, 21 Savage, Lil Yachty, Kevin Gates, and more round out the star-studded collection (see tracklisting below).
“THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS: THE ALBUM” marks the return of the hugely successful partnership between Atlantic Records and Universal Pictures. The two companies previously teamed up for “FURIOUS 7: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK,” which proved a chart-busting smash upon its 2015 release. The soundtrack topped the SoundScan/Billboard 200 while hitting No. 1 on the iTunes Store’s overall “Top Albums” chart in 77 countries. The album is highlighted by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s emotional tribute “See You Again.” The song has officially entered the history books as one of the decade’s biggest singles, topping Billboard’s “Hot 100” for a stunning 12 weeks. Currently certified 7x platinum by the RIAA, “See You Again” is indeed a planetary phenomenon, with worldwide streams in excess of 5 billion. The song’s deeply touching companion video now exceeds 2.5 billion individual views – the first-ever hip-hop video to achieve the billion-view milestone and YouTube’s second most-viewed video of all time.
“THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS: THE ALBUM” was produced by Warner Music Group executives Mike Caren (GRAMMY®-nominated producer and Creative Officer of Warner Music Group, as well as CEO of both Artist Publishing and Partner Groups) and Kevin Weaver (Atlantic Records President of Film & TV and GRAMMY® Award–winning producer). Longtime collaborators Caren and Weaver most recently worked together co-producing the critically-acclaimed Furious 7 soundtrack, including the multi-platinum single “See You Again,” alongside Universal Pictures, and the recent Suicide Squad smash soundtrack album. Caren has been responsible for signing more than 20 gold and platinum-selling artists including Trey Songz, T.I., Flo Rida and Wiz Khalifa. Weaver, a five-time GRAMMY® nominee, has been at the helm of Atlantic Records’ Film/TV division, garnering massive success for countless projects, with highlights including the Furious 7 soundtrack/singles and the multi-platinum single “We Own It” by Wiz Khalifa & 2 Chainz from Fast & Furious 6 with Universal Pictures. The production of this album saw a new addition to the creative team with Artist Publishing and Artist Partner Group Vice President Jeff Vaughn (Kevin Gates, Kehlani, Sage The Gemini), who provided A&R oversight on the album alongside Caren and Weaver. All of the film’s music was overseen by GRAMMY® nominated President of Film Music & Publishing for Universal Pictures Mike Knobloch and music supervised for Universal Pictures by Senior Vice President Rachel Levy. Knobloch and Levy have worked together on the music oversight and supervision of numerous award-winning projects including Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, the films of the Despicable Me franchise, and Sing.
