Sony Music Reacts To The Death Of David Bowie: A Look At His Final Album “Blackstar”

Sony Music Entertainment, the distributor of David Bowie’s final album, Blackstar has reacted to the news of his passing. The American part of the company responsible for the release, Columbia Records has sent us the following statement.

David Bowie’s Blackstar is currently the number one downloaded album in the USA across all digital platforms. The album was released to the world on January 8, 2016, just days before his death on January 10, 2016. It was made available through Bowie’s ISO label, and distributed through Sony’s Columbia Records in the USA, and RCA Records in The UK. Backstar features the two singles “Backstar” and “Lazarus”. It was produced by David Bowie and  Tony Visconti. Repirtedly Visconti has said that  the album was inspired by rapper Kendrick Lamar with his 2015 album To Pimp a Butterfly. It features collaborations with electronic duo Boards of Canada and experimental hip-hop trio Death Grips. The album which has a Avant-Guard, experimental Jazz Fusion sound to it, was said to Bowie’s intended “Swan Song” before his death according to Visconti.
