SNOW PATROL ANNOUNCES 30-CITY, 7-WEEK NORTH AMERICAN TOUR OF U.S. AND CANADA,

Snow Patrol CalledOut In The Dark(January 18, 2012 – New York, NY) Multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated UK band Snow Patrol launches 2012 with a Top 5 Soundscan debut for their new [sixth] studio album FALLEN EMPIRES – as it enters the Billboard 200 albums chart at ## on first week sales.  The January 10th album release date – which sent FALLEN EMPIRES straight to #1 at iTunes – was bookended by live performances on CBS’s The Late Show with David Letterman (January 9th, followed the same night with a full-length concert on the ground-breaking Live on Letterman webcast concert series) and The Ellen DeGeneres Show on January 12th.  Their song “New York” was also featured in the ending montage episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy on January 5th.

Snow Patrol officially announced tickets on sale for their first North American tour of 2012, opening one month later on March 12th at Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Florida.  The 30-city, 7-week tour of the U.S. and Canada wraps up May 18th at the Verizon Wireless Theater in Houston, Texas.  (Please see complete tour itinerary below.)

FALLEN EMPIRES is Snow Patrol’s first new studio album in more than three years.  The first single, “Called Out in the Dark” (with a guitar part from guest Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens Of The Stone Age), hit Top 5 at Triple-A radio, Snow Patrol’s ninth AAA hit.

With a history of 11 million album sales and hit singles around the world, Snow Patrol – singer Gary Lightbody, guitarist Nathan Connolly, bassist Paul Wilson, drummer Jonny Quinn, and keyboardist Tom Simpson – settled into California for the writing and recording of FALLEN EMPIRES.

The new album takes its cues from LCD Soundsystem’s The Sound Of Silver, U2’s Achtung Baby, and Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs.  Highlights of FALLEN EMPIRES include “New York” (which feels like a festival moment-in-waiting), and “The Garden Rules,” a soundtrack to autumnal romance, written about Gary’s childhood.  “I’ll Never Let Go” (featuring the gospel choir) boldly takes the band into electro-dance club mode.

“We wanted to make a massively ambitious record,” says Gary, “a record unlike any other we’ve made before… We started writing songs that were more playful, even rawer than before – we were brave enough to do what we wanted as a band, rather than what convention dictated to us.  It was tough at times, we were out of our comfort zone for most of it, but I think it’s given us a great album.”

FALLEN EMPIRES establishes Snow Patrol as a band big on experimental ideas as well as stadium sized anthems.  “I’ve always wanted to make an album that could rank with the ones that inspire me,” Gary says, “and hopefully this one will.  I’m really proud of this album.  Listening to it thrills me and that is a beautiful thing indeed.”
