Simon & Sony Joint Venture: The Plot Thickens
UK publication, The Guardian reports today that American Idol Judg,e Simon Cowell is preparing to beef up his presence in the music business through a new joint venter between his own Syco Music and Sony Music Entertainment. American Idol Executive Simon Fuller will continue to retain 10% of AI’s future profits “for life” The Financial Times also claims this morning that Cowell’s company will trade controling rights to Artists, Susan Boyle, and Leona Lewis in return for a 50% steak in Syco’s Sony Music venture. Considering One can only imagine what is next for him considering his plans to leave Idol in order to import his british hit X Factor to Fox. While it is a little haunting that there are going to be two talent search shows of the same genre on the same network, I think it’s safe to say that this is a sign that Simon Cowell knows something we don’t. It will be interesting to see what unfolds as we catch up to his two steps ahead.
