Clizbeats featured artist, Robin Thicke recently paid tribute to the late great Whitney Houston. On February 19th Robin took to his Twitter to re-release his cover version of Whitney’s 1995 hit, “Exhale (Shoop)”, from the Waiting To Exhale Soundtrack. Robin’s version is a slowed down, piano/jazz style arrangement. It was recorded during the original sessions for Robin’s platinum album, The Evolution Of Robin Thicke. Robin’s version became known as a viral hit in 2006 in the early days of YouTube. Video and audio of him playing the song on what has become known as “The House DVD” surfaced online. Robin’s studio version of the track complete with background vocals was never released until now. When Robin uploaded it to Mediafire for free download, the version he gave out was an MP4 that had the album information listed as “The Evolution of R.T.” Robin said the following in his tribute tweet

“This is my tribute to the great Whitney Houston. Sending my prayers to her family”

Whitney’s version from the Waiting To Exhale film and soundtrack (A movie she also starred in) was a huge R&B hit. The Babyface written and produced song made history. I It became the third single to debut on top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in Billboard’s history at the time. It was Houston’s eleventh number one single. It was later certified platinum. The soundtrack became known as a landmark release for 90s R&B female musicians. Whitney contributed three songs (“Exhale (Shoop)”, “Why Does It Hurt So Bad”, and “Count On Me” with Cece Winans) The soundtrack also featured hit singles from the likes of Brandy, Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, TLC and others. The Waiting To Exhale Soundtrack sold over 7 million copies. It stayed on the Billboard 200 for a total of 49 weeks and 70 weeks, on the Top R&B Albums chart.
