Robin Thicke Scores His First Top 10 Hit On The Billboard Hot 100 With “Blurred Lines” But Not Before Slowing It Down With His Next Single “For The Rest Of My Life”
Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” is continuing to take his career to new heights, as it becomes one of the most added songs to Pop radio playlists once again this week. The surprise hit for Thicke has opened new doors for him, introducing him to a bigger worldwide demographic. The single, which has been certified platinum in various countries has also given Thicke the opportunity to experiment with a different blend of sounds, allowing him to break out of the Soul slow jam mold to have some fun.
The forthcoming album that is also being called Blurred Lines has Thicke blending his unmistakable falsetto with a lot of different kinds of artists and producers. Our readers may remember us talking about his collaboration with 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar last month. That song, “Give It To You”, which was production by Dr. Luke, is a good example of this. It is an up beat EDM inspired track that has been rumored to be a future single. It also is now being reported that Robin has been doing some writing with his Interscope label mate Will I Am as well. In a May 13th article by posted by Billboard, Robin talked about the more fun sound of the album and how it reflects where he is in his life and career,
“It’s Robin Thicke music, but in a happier place,” he told Billboard, when discussing the album’s vibe. Robin has every reason to feel happier these days; “Blurred Lines” has given him his first top 10 hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. The song shot up from number 11 to number 6 just this week. It surpassed Robin’s previous peak with “Lost Without U” at number 14 in 2007. However if you are a fan of “Lost Without U”, and miss the baby making music that he has become famous for, he has something for you on this album as well. This past Tuesday Robin digitally released a new slow jam called, “For The Rest Of My Life.” Just like the title may suggest, like the majority of Robin’s other work, the song is very obviously inspired by his romance with his wife, Paula Patton.
Paula has always been the muse for the creative direction of many of Robin’s songs. She has appeared along side him in his music videos for “Lost Without U” (2007) ,and “Love After War,” (2011) she even appeared nude on the cover of his debut album, appropriately titled A Beautiful World in 2002. While it is easy to hear how Paula fuels Robin’s inspiration when you listen to almost any of his music, what makes “For The Rest Of My Life” particularly special however is the fact that it is not only inspired by Paula, it is about her. Like if it was the soundtrack to a film to a romantic film, “For The Rest Of My Life” stands out for vividly chronicling the story of the romance he shares with her. The song takes the stories that Robin has shared in interviews about their romance and expands on them. He talks about singing in Paula’s ear when they first met, as well as how she played hard to get afterwards. The next verse begins with him telling the story he has told many times before about their first kiss. He sings about how he sang Jodeci’s “Forever My Lady” on the night when he invited her over to his house. The verse continues by telling a story about how they even broke up for a year because he “messed up like boys tend to do.” He then told a never before told story about how he saw an opportunity to ignite the flame. At the time Robin was still not old enough to drive, but he did not hesitate in “stealing his daddy’s car” to take it to reunite with her. After dating since their teenage years, Robin Thicke and Paula Patton were married on June 11, 2005. Their son Julian Fuego Thicke was born on April 6, 2010. It is probably safe to say that it was a good decision to get behind the wheel that day. Way to do it all for love Robin! While “Blurred Lines” continues to burn up the Pop charts, “For The Rest Of My Life” is going to be serviced to Urban Adult Contemporary radio in the near future. It is one of his most personal songs to date, and it tells the story about the love he has for his wife in a very unique way, we can’t wait for the video!
