Robin Thicke And Carson Daly Discuss The New Revival Of Neo Soul As “Blurred Lines” Hits #1 On iTunes!
Long time friend to Clizbeats.com, Robin Thicke has been getting a unique amount of buzz centered around his latest single “Blurred Lines”, since the unrated version of its music video was first banned from YouTube. However that steadily growing buzz was taken to new heights when Thicke performed the song on NBC’s The Voice. After that performance he did with T.I, and Pharrell Williams, “Blurred Lines” went on to top the iTunes singles chart hours later. The track is now arguably one of the most successful singles of his entire career. It has already become a top 5 hit in multiple European countries, and now it is back here at home. Even though Robin has been considered one of the most consistent career artists for R&B music, his newly found massive mainstream success worldwide is one of the things that is beginning to spark conversation about a growing R&B and Neo Soul revival within the sound of today’s Pop music.
In the past few years the pulse of today’s Pop music has been lead by the sounds of various EDM artists like Calvin Harris, Afrojack, Sweedish House Mafia, LMFAO and many others. Even Urban music regulars like Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown and Usher have reached new milestones of worldwide success by finding their way into the growing Dance movement. However Robin’s new music is now categorized as part of the new growing trend in American Pop, where some of the most buzz worthy artist are making the kind of music that is and always has been Thicke’s specialty. Robin is joined by other acclaimed artists like Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Emeli Sande, Miguel, ZZ Ward, and Alicia Keys in helping put old fashion soul inspired music back on the map. Even EDM veterans Daft Punk are experiencing new career highs with their soul/Disco rooted hit “Get Lucky” featuring Pharrell Williams.
This is why even after years of experience, he was able to be perceived as a breath of fresh air for audiences that watched him on Tuesday’s episode of The Voice. To say that his sound was welcomed by new listeners with open arms would be an understatement. “Blurred Lines” has become his most universally praised single since 2007’s “Lost Without U.” Yesterday Robin joined Voice host Carson Daly on his Los Angeles AMP Radio morning show to discuss, the new revival of Neo Soul in Pop music. In the conversation Robin and Carson then also go on to talk about the sound of the rest of his upcoming album. Robin mentioned that it will include production by other producers, rather than just having serve as the album’s primary producer like on previous projects.
“Blurred Lines” is actually produced by its guest artist, Pharrell Williams. Robin and Pharrell began working together in 2005 when Pharrell signed Robin to his Star Trak Records, an imprint of Interscope Records. That signing led to Robin’s 2007 breakthrough album, The Evolution Of Robin Thicke. The majority of that entire album was produced by Robin and his partner Pro J. The only exception was the album’s first single, “Wanna Love U Girl”, which was produced by Pharrell. They later collaborated again on the soundtracks to Fast And Furious in 2009, and Despicable Me in 2010. This combo must be working because it has recently been reported that they going to collaborate on the soundtrack to Despicable Me 2 as well.
With all the success the single “Blurred Lines” has had, we’re excited to see what other surprises those two will have in store for Robin’s album. The Blurred Lines album is set to hit stores this summer. Keep checking in with us at Clizbeats.com for all the details.
