Rapper/Producer Vic Mensa traded possible jail time for 2 years probation in connection to his arrest in February. Mensa was charged for carrying a concealed weapon. According to Billboard, Mensa told Beverly HIlls police that he had a gun at a traffic stop for allegedly running a red light. However, TMZ reports that he ended up getting arrested when his permit to carry was found to be invalid.
Mensa posted about the incident on Snapchat, denying the allegations and accusing the police of racial profiling.
“This should be funny, but really, I got s**t to do, man,” he said. “It’s like, you can’t be a young black man out here doing anything – legal, positive, and you still get treated like a criminal.”
For context sake, Mensa has a history with the Beverly Hills PD. They originally detained him in 2016, accusing him of stealing from Barney’s department store. Mensa also posted about that on SnapChat, denying the the allegations.
In regards to the current charges, the police confiscated Mensa gun and he spent the night in jail. Mensa was released on $35,000 bail.
