TMZ is exclusively reporting that legendary singer, songwriter, producer and all around music icon Prince has died at 57 years old. The report indicates that his body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning. (April 21, 2016)
This news comes after the singer had a medical emergency on April 15th which forced his private jet to make an emergency lancing in Illinois to rush him to the hospital that day. He then appeared on stage at a concert the next day to assure fans that he was ok. However TMZ later learned from sources close to the singer that he had been battling the flu and did cancel recent concerts for health reasons.
Prince (Real name Prince Rogers Nelson) was known for redefining the rules of Pop, Rock and R&B with his production techniques and vocal delivery. His discography shows a wide variety of subject matter, pushing the boundaries of what was expect from a black R&B singer. He has been known for pushing the envelope with songs that cover a wide range of topics and emotions. At times he was considered controversial for how he would include politics, religion and sexuality in his music while also not shying away from using explicit lyrics in some cases. Through the years that bold and honest approach to music influenced millions including some of today’s biggest pop stars. Over the course of his career Prince has sold over 100 million albums, won 7 Grammy Awards, and one Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Purple Rain.”
