A founding member of pioneer grunge band, Alice In Chains, bassist Mike Starr, was found dead Tuesday March 8th. TMZ reports that police found him in his home in Salt Lake City, Utah, yesterday afternoon at 142 PM. He was 44 years old.
Unfortunately, It is important to note, MTV News also reports, that Starr was found with several painkillers on him when he was arrested for possession of a controlled substance last month. This was the end of an ongoing battle with drug addiction.
Starr’s death due to drug addiction follows the infamous death of his band mate and best friend, Layne Staley. Staley died of an overdosed mixture of cocaine and heroin in 2002. This band and those around them have struggled with drug addiction for quite some time now. Mike Starr discussed the toll that drug use has taken with Dr. Drew Pinsky as a paticipant in VH1’s Celebrity Rehab in 2009. It is haunting real life proof of how drugs can destroy a good life.
